In these uncertain economic times the so called “Robin Hood Tax” has been receiving a lot of press attention and is something that member stations of the CMA have been discussing.

Few people know Govan as well as Heather McMillan, from Sunny Govan Community Radio. “There’s a lot of regeneration and investment going on, but behind all these buildings and the luxury flats, we have to recognise that we can’t neglect the people,” she says.  “The government should work a lot more closely with communities, it wouldn’t take them long to walk this street. Not only would they find out about the issues, but they would realise that people can come up with their own solutions as well.”

The photograph is JP. He lives and works in an area of Glasgow where people struggle to get their views heard. JP works for Sunny Govan. “Everybody listens to and talks about my show,” he says. “People from all different areas phone in for shout-outs.

“My show brings all the gangs together. If the gangs are all in the house listening to the tunes, then they’re not out boxing.”

The money needed to run the Sunny Govan project for one year could be raised by the Robin Hood Tax in about 7 seconds.
